Taj of India Review

This place is a well-kept secret. Nestled next to La Chaumiere on M street, Taj of India is a great, authentic Indian restaurant. I don't really remember how I found this restaurant or what inspired me to try it, but thank heavens I did. Their menu is huge and has a nice variety of meat, veggie, and even cheese-centric dishes.

To start, you've got to try their samosas. Filled with either potatoes and peas or ground beef, they are a perfect first bite. Entrees include shrimp, lamb, chicken, beef, and fish simmered in a variety of different sauces. But, at the end of the day, the naan is the most important part of any Indian meal for me. The naan at Taj of India comes to the table hot and fresh out of the tandoori oven, and you can get it plain, garlic, or stuffed with your choice of potato, cheese, beef, or a cherry/raisin/almond/coconut mixture.

Taj's prices aren't low, but they aren't high either. I'm a regular customer and I always find that the prices reflect the quality and quantity of food I'm served.

My top 3 dishes:

1. Chicken Tikka Masala -- Absolute perfection
2. Shrimp Dopazza -- Shrimp in a great curry based sauce
3. Daal Makhani -- Lentils in a cream sauce, great for vegetarians
4. Tandoori Naan -- I know, I know I added a fourth...but I had to give their naan a shout-out.
