Georgetown, aside from being a shoppers paradise and having some of the ritzy-est homes in DC, has great restaurants. M Street, the main drag of Georgetown, is host to a majority of these spots, but plenty other options line Wisconsin and other side streets throughout the neighborhood. These are my picks for the best of Georgetown, categorized by meal, cuisine, and general vibe
Best Sandwiches = Cafe Tu O Tu -- A Mediterranean inspired sandwich and panini place in Georgetown that serves their paninis on delicious Ciabatta bread.
Jetties -- Jetties is in the Foxhall area of Georgetown (not sure if it's technically Georgetown still but I'm just going to go with it) and serves gargantuan sandwiches with creative titles and unique twists. Try the Nobadeer, their Thanksgiving inspired sandwich.
Best Pasta = Ristorante Piccolo -- Hands down the best pasta I've had in Georgetown. Try one of the seafood pastas, like their Lobster ravioli (although the portion of ravioli is small so get an appetizer as well). Save room for dessert too, they serve a variety of authentic Italian treats that end the meal perfectly.
Best Outdoor Dining = Paolos -- Paolos is a modern Italian restaurant in Georgetown that has a great happy hour and outdoor patio, right on Wisconsin avenue. Great for people watching and soaking up some rays in the summer months. They don't "technically" serve happy hour outside, but you can get a happy hour drink at the bar and asked to be seated on the patio for your meal. Cheers!
Best Extravagant Dessert = Serendipity 3 -- Sure Georgetown's Serendipity is a little touristy, but they've also got some of the best and most creative desserts around. Their chocolate blackout cake is one of my top 5 things I've ever eaten, and they've got a fried Oreo sundae that will knock your socks off.
Best Steak = Bourbon Steak -- I wrote a whole post just about Bourbon Steak (at Georgetown's Four Seasons) and how much I loved it. This is the must-visit for steak connoisseurs.
Best Kept Secret(s) = Unum -- Well, this isn't really a secret because it was just featured in the Washingtonian's Top 100 Restaurants in the area. But it's inconspicuous location and appearance make it a hidden gem in Georgetown. Great burgers and boneless short rib pasta.
Kafe Leopold -- Tucked in Cady's Alley, a small alley behind Georgetown's main street (M street,) this European bistro is one of Georgetown's most unique restaurants. Their "Brathendi," a roast chicken dish, is succulent and juicy, and their salads are crisp and exploding with flavor. They've also got a dessert counter, filled with small European pastries. If you like chocolate, you've got to save room for dessert.
Best Pizza = Il Canale -- Although I don't think Il Canale in Georgetown quite stacks up to DC favorite 2Amys, they come in a close second. Their neapolitan style pies are delicious and my younger sister (also a DC resident) regularly gets their margherita pie to-go.
